Corridor Planning Guidebook

Step 4. Potential Solutions

The purpose of Step 4 is to identify and evaluate potential solutions to address the needs and opportunities identified in previous steps. Step 4 consists of the following items:

Step 4 also includes engagement activities, as described below.

Step 4 Engagement Activities

Closing the loop with members of the public and with public agency staff is an essential part of engagement. Members of the public and/or public agency staff will look to the proposed solutions and the evaluation results to understand how their issues or concerns are or are not represented.

In Step 4, conduct ongoing review and documentation using the following guidance.

  • Solutions
    • What are the top or recuring issues or concerns identified by members of the public and by public agency staff during the project to date?
      • Verify by reviewing the Existing and Future Conditions report (Qualitative Input and Healthy Equitable Communities sections for each topic area) and meeting summaries from public and agency meetings
    • How are the relevant issues or concerns captured in the solutions? Are there any missing or not addressed that can be incorporated?
    • Are there other specific solutions or ideas that the public would like to see evaluated?
    • For issues or concerns considered to be not relevant to the corridor plan, documenting this to provide clarity and transparency.
  • Evaluation Criteria and Results
    • Do the evaluation criteria capture the relevant issues and concerns identified by members of the public and public agency staff?
    • If not, are there additional criteria that could be added to do so? If adding criteria is not deemed appropriate, document this to provide clarity and transparency.
    • If public input is significantly different than evaluation results, this should be noted.
  • At the end of Step 4, review the Engagement Plan against results to date and adjust as needed.

See additional guidance in Appendix B: Public and Agency Engagement.
