About the measures
The variability in annual aviation accident and fatality data reflects the rarity of these events. Aviation crashes fatalities make up a very small portion of all transportation crashes and fatalities.
Recent trends
In 2021, aviation accidents reached the lowest total (12) in the previous 12-year period while the number of fatal accidents and fatalities remained consistent with prior years totals.
Where we want to go
The MnDOT Office of Aeronautics provides airport inspections, airport improvement grants, and technologies which increase airport safety throughout the state. MnDOT updates Minnesota’s State Aviation System Plan (SASP) at regular intervals. The SASP sets goals for the aviation system, identify aviation needs, and creates a direction for the future.
