Transportation Research Syntheses (TRS)

What is a TRS?

A Transportation Research Synthesis (TRS) is a short-turnaround research report that addresses a specific research topic. TRSs include summaries of completed and in-progress research, or reports about the state of the practice among departments of transportation (DOTs).

A TRS goes beyond the scope of literature searches; it can include interviews or surveys, and the resources found are clearly organized and summarized — with contact names, web links and other specifications.

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Research Advisory Committee (RAC) offers surveys to solicit information from other state DOT representatives regarding best practices, policies, and specification.
