History and significance

Built in 1958, Bridge 9082 carries northbound State Highway 77 (Cedar Avenue) over Interstate 494 in Hennepin County. The bridge is significant as an example of the earliest period of use and evolution for prestressed concrete girders in the state. Prestressed concrete represents a significant advance in construction materials and was first used by the Minnesota Highway Department in 1957.

Rehabilitation activities

In 2014 MnDOT rehabilitated Bridge 9082. Efforts included re-decking and replacing the approach panels on the bridge. In addition, the bridge railing was replaced to meet current safety standards. MnDOT designed the railing in keeping with the design, profile, and feeling of the original.
