Traffic Forecasting & Analysis Roadway Data
    Coordinates the department's traffic monitoring and vehicle classification programs to produce average annual daily traffic volumes for trunk highways and local roads. Provides leadership, methods, training, technical assistance and quality assurance for 20-year traffic volume and load forecasts prepared by MnDOT District Offices. In addition, provides assistance for special traffic studies and prepares traffic data reports for FHWA's Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS).
  • Maintains the trunk highway Roadway History File that includes profiles of roadway cross sections.
  • Creates and updates Roadlog Files with data on location, jurisdiction, functional classification, surface/shoulder type and width and reference points.
  • Maintains Control Section records and Construction Project Logs.
  • Also responsible for MnDOT’s Transportation Information System (TIS) - an integrated database with roadway and selected bridge, accident, traffic and pavement data.
Geographic Information & Mapping GIS BaseMap
  • Responsible for preparing and maintaining core geographic data at a planning level scale of >1:24,000.
  • Products include MnDOT's CAD cartography for the Official State Highway Map, as well as individual maps for Minnesota's 87 counties and 854 cities.
  • In addition, it provides special purpose mapping and graphic services upon request for reports and exhibits.
The BaseMap is a planning level set of data developed at a scale of 1:24000. The data set includes information about transportation features (roads, railroads and navigable waters), as well as boundary information (State, County, and Municipal Boundaries, MnDOT District Boundaries, Civil, and Congressional Townships, State Forests and Parks, Military Reservations, Indian Reservation Lands, National Forests and Parks), and stream and lake locations.
