Annual status mapping report feedback

Purpose and background

Transportation Data and Analysis (TDA), which includes the Geographic Information Mapping (GIM) section and Linear Referencing System (LRS), maintains a variety of cartographic products and roadway data collection workflows that support city and county partners across Minnesota. These products are widely used for planning, project development, reporting, and day-to-day operational needs.

To ensure our products continue to meet customer expectations and align with MnDOT’s evolving digital strategy, TDA will conduct a survey in June to obtain feedback from city and county engineers throughout the state. The purpose of the survey is to gather actionable feedback, understand how local partners use existing products, identify emerging needs, and explore opportunities to transition away from static products toward digital content where appropriate. Once the results of the survey are reviewed, TDA will join State Aid at their October meetings to answer questions and discuss future enhancements.

This effort is intended to strengthen relationships, improve product quality, and ensure TDA delivers tools and information that provide the greatest value to local agencies.

Objectives

The primary objectives of this effort are to:

  • Engage local agency engineers in structured conversations about cartographic products and roadway data workflows
  • Demonstrate current products and systems, including maps, datasets, and collection methodologies.
  • Identify product gaps, pain points, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Gather feedback on preferred formats, usability, and digital delivery options.
