History & significance
Bridge 96356 is a single-span, precast concrete arch bridge constructed in 1989 utilizing the MnDOT non-proprietary design. It carries County State Aid Highway 23/Ryan Road over Big Sucker Creek in St. Louis County. The bridge is one of three simultaneously designed in 1988, the first year MnDOT implemented its response to the patented precast BEBO bridge design, introduced in Minnesota in 1981. Bridge 96356 represents engineering significance as an example of the experimental precast concrete arch bridge type, thereby providing competition among potential precast structures.
