History & significance
Bridge 70037 was built in 1994 and carries U.S. Highway 169 Northbound over Eagle Creek Boulevard in Shakopee, Scott County. The single-span, prestressed, post-tensioned, spliced (segmented) concrete beam bridge is approximately 180 feet long. Its superstructure is comprised of nine prestressed, post-tensioned, segmented concrete beams with steel-welded intermediate diaphragms between beams. The field-spliced construction allowed the use of prestressed concrete beams to be precast off-site under controlled conditions, yet still of an acceptable length to be transported to the bridge site. Further, the type allowed spans of a length otherwise unattainable and eliminated the need for central piers in the roadway. Bridge 70037 is significant as the first (along with its adjacent twin, Bridge 70038) prestressed, post-tensioned, spliced (segmented) concrete beam bridge in the state of Minnesota.
