History & significance
The Silver Creek Cliff Tunnel (Bridge 38005) was built in 1994 and is a hard-rock tunnel carrying Trunk Highway 61 under the Silver Creek Cliff in Silver Creek Township, Lake County. The 1,340-foot-long and 46-foot-wide structure is significant as one of only two hard-rock mined tunnels in Minnesota. It is also notable for the use of the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM) used during construction.
