History & significance

Bridge 27652 is a single-span, precast concrete arch bridge constructed in 1981 under the proprietary BEBO patent. It carries West 72nd Street over Nine Mile Creek in the city of Edina, Hennepin County. The BEBO design was developed by Swiss civil engineer Werner Heierli in the 1960s. The patented parabolic design involved complex engineering and included precasting of headwalls, wingwalls, the arch, and arch base. Bridge 27652 is significant as the first BEBO patent precast arch bridge constructed in the U.S and served as the prototype for all BEBO bridges subsequently constructed in Minnesota and the U.S.
