Current traffic impacts
Currently, motorists can expect:
- Southside interchange ramps are closed. I-94 traffic to/from Highway 210 in Fergus Falls, use detour on County Road 1/Tower Road (Exit 55).
- Head-to-head traffic and reduced speeds on I-94 near the interchange.
- Highway 210 is open for east/west travelers during construction. As of Sept. 19, traffic is now on the new bridge and new alignment between Western Avenue and Redwood Lane.
Drivers should:
- Use the temporary lanes at Redwood Lane to enter or exit the roundabout and continue east/west on Highway 210 or access businesses.
- Eastbound traffic uses the temporary lane at the easterly roundabout to continue east into Fergus Falls.
- Upcoming temporary closure Oct 13-15: Western Avenue just south of Highway 210 for pipe installation.
- Use detour on Kennedy Park Road to access Western Avenue and businesses from the south.
Please travel with care and caution, and be patient with your fellow drivers as everyone gets used to the new traffic patterns. Proceed carefully and watch for changing conditions through the work zone.
Project summary
The Minnesota Department of Transportation will reconstruct the Highway 210 west junction with Interstate 94 in Fergus Falls. The project is currently scheduled for construction in 2026.
As part of this project, the existing bridges will be replaced. MnDOT will replace the existing two bridges with a single structure.
With the bridge replacement, the roadway will reduce from four lanes to two lanes, with trails constructed on both sides of the road for pedestrian and bicycle use. Roundabouts will be constructed at the interchange ramps and Redwood Lane.
The I-94 eastbound on-ramp and westbound off-ramp will also be realigned to follow the adjusted roadway. At the westbound off-ramp, the tie in will allow for a flatter approach. At the eastbound on-ramp, the ramp will be realigned for easier merging.
