MnDOT thanks the community of Milaca for their input during the online feedback survey that ended Sept. 20, 2021 (854 participants). Your insight will be essential in planning this future 2025 project that will improve motorist and pedestrian access and safety at these Hwy 23 intersections:

  • Third Ave. SW
  • Central Ave.
  • Second St.
  • First St. E
  • Hwy 169 ramps
  • 110th Ave.
  • 105th Ave.

Study recommendations and public outreach results to be available when complete in fall 2021.

About this study

MnDOT, in partnership with Mille Lacs County and the City of Milaca, is conducting a 2021 corridor study to identify improvement needs along Hwy 23 between the Rum River Bridge to Co. Rd. 2 (105th Ave.) in Milaca.

The study will seek ways to improve the traffic flow, safety and multi-modal use to meet the growing needs of the Milaca community. Overall feedback and information gathered in the 2021 study, will be used to plan future short and long-term improvements along Hwy 23.

Public input opportunities

About this future project

MnDOT will improve Hwy 23 from the Rum River Bridge at 5th St. SW to Mille Lacs Co. Rd. 2 (105th Ave.) in Milaca.  In 2026, the project will:

  • Reconstruct the road from east of the Rum River Bridge to 5th Ave. SE
  • Resurface the road from 5th Ave. SE to Mille Lacs Co. Rd. 2 (105th Ave.)
  • Upgrade the intersection and signal system at Hwy 23 and Central Ave. S (Mille Lacs Co. Rd. 36)
  • Update sidewalks and approaches between Central Ave. S (Mille Lacs Co. Rd. 36) and 3rd Ave. SE
  • Add new pedestrian connections—sidewalk or trail
  • Identify and use safety and access recommendations from the 2021 study
