Silver Creek and Stewart River bridges

Traffic impacts

On Monday, Oct. 3, Highway 61 traffic will be shifted onto the newly constructed Silver Creek Bridge and temporary bypass. The intersection of Loop Road and Highway 61 will also reopen on Oct. 3. During the switch, traffic will be reduced to a single lane under flaggers. Grading work will continue at Silver Creek through late October with no traffic impacts expected.

Construction at Stewart River for the season. Traffic will be directed to the newly constructed bridge and will remain in a head-to-head pattern through Fall 2023. The Kelsey Beach parking lot will be closed during construction.

There will be no bike or pedestrian access through the construction zone.

Silver Creek Bridge

  • Construction of new bridge replacing box culvert and including bike/ped crossing on bridge
  • Stream restoration
  • Extension of old Hwy 61 to align with Loop Road with sidewalk from bridge to old Hwy 61 extension and provisions for future DNR trail under new bridge
  • New pavement in work zone
  • Tree clearing as needed   

Stewart River Bridge

  • Rehabilitation of historic bridge with new bike/ped crossing
  • Historic bridge will carry northbound TH 61 traffic
  • Construction of new bridge inland of historic bridge to carry southbound TH 61 traffic
  • Turn lanes at County Rd 3 and Betty's Pies
  • New pavement in work zone
  • Tree clearing as needed
