Maintenance Training

Mn/DOT coordinates with the University of Minnesota's Center for Transportation Studies and the Minnesota Local Technical Assistance Program to provide training to district offices, cities, counties and townships in all areas of maintenance.
Training topics include:
- Snow Plow Operator Training (SPOT)
- Attenuator
- Guardrail and end treatment installation
- Sander calibration
- Radiological emergency preparedness
- Field manual, and equipment operator (four-wheel drive loader, tractor mower, skid steer, etc.)

Salt Solutions
Hands on program that monitors and employs research on equipment, chemicals, and the training needed to successfully implement a winter bare lane program statewide.
Includes, but not limited to pre-wetting, de-icing, anti-icing and sensible salting on the state highway system through out the entire state with emphasis including environmental effects along with how to complete our jobs economically without sacrificing safety of our customers.

Circuit Training & Assistance Program
The Circuit Training and Assistance Program (CTAP) provides practical training in best practices and new technologies to maintenance personnel from cities, counties, townships and the state. CTAP uses a fully equipped van to provide on-site training across the state of Minnesota. The workshops are often hands-on with demonstrations of new equipment, materials and technologies.
Current CTAP training courses include:
- Asphalt Pavement Maintenance
- Culvert Installation and Maintenance
- Dust Control on Unpaved Roads
- Gravel Road Maintenance
- Roadside Vegetation Management and Erosion Control
- Snow and Ice Control
