Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
Improving surface transportation system safety and efficiency.
Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) are electronics, communications, or information processing systems or services used singly or in combination to improve the safety and efficiency of the surface transportation system.
ITS planning consists of identifying MnDOT business needs, prioritizing these needs, scoping these needs into the acceptable programs and budgets.
ITS design consists of developing the approved project concepts and selecting contractors to prepare plans, specs and special provisions that satisfy system requirements using newly developed or innovative components.
ITS evaluation consists of measuring the operational goals and system performance goals against the design thresholds and requirements. In most cases the equipment will be removed during this phase.
