Design-Build

Hwy 14 Expansion

SP 2001-42, Letting Aug. 21, 2019

Project description

This project involves the construction of a new (four-lane) alignment of Highway 14, comprising segments 2 and 3 of the larger Highway 14 expansion effort, from 0.7 miles east of Steele County Road 43 (east of Owatonna) to Highway 56 North (west of Dodge Center). The new alignment will be located south of both the current (two-lane) highway alignment and the existing railroad alignment. This expansion provides safety benefits while improving TH 14’s capacity, reducing travel time, and improving the interregional commerce connection. Highway 14 is an important freight and commuter corridor between Owatonna, Interstate 35 and its strong manufacturing sector, and Rochester: a robust regional employer and top medical center.

This project will involve grading, concrete paving, the construction of multiple new bridges, the demolition of 15 buildings, and the construction of approximately 5 miles of local roadways.

The Design-Build Contract approximate cost of the project is $110 million.
