The Minnesota Department of Transportation will resurface Highway 55, from the southern junction of County Road 11 in Wendell to the Minnesota/North Dakota state line. Construction starts May 16, 2022.
Staged detours (see "Construction staging" below)
Starting June 13, intermittent lane closures in Stage 1 between CR 11 in Wendell and Hwy 9.
Stage 2 & 3 have been combined. Road is closed between Hwy 9 and ND Hwy 127 in Fairmount, ND. Follow detour.
A nearby bridge replacement project on Hwy 9 starts June 13. Depending on direction of travel you may encounter both projects and detours. Visit the project website for more information.

The Highway 55 project will be completed in three stages, starting on the east end near Wendell, working west.
Stage 1 - Highway 9 to County Road 11 in Wendell (Lane closures start June 13)

Stage 2 - Highway 75 to Highway 9**
Work zone and road closed between Highway 75 and Highway 9. Stage 2 detour: Hwy 75 and Hwy 9
Stage 3 - MN/ND state line to Highway 75**
Work zone between the MN/ND state line and Highway 75. Road closed between Fairmount, ND and Highway 75. Stage 3 detour: ND Hwy 127, ND CR16/MN CR6 and MN Hwy 75. (Note: traffic will be navigated to North Dakota highways as part of the detour route)
**Stage 2 and Stage 3 are being done simultaneously, so Hwy 55 is closed from the State line to Hwy 9.
