Study - Hwy 25 Buffalo to Monticello

Completed corridor study

MnDOT, in partnership with Wright County and the Cities of Buffalo and Monticello, completed a 2021 corridor study to identify improvement needs along Hwy 25 between Catlin St. in Buffalo and Kjellberg Ct. in Monticello.

Identified short-term improvements

Update access at Hwy 25 and Catlin St.
Update access from Catlin St. to Wright Co. Rd. 83
Construct a roundabout at Hwy 25 and Co. Rd. 83 in 2024 (led by Wright County)
Install a southbound left-turn lane at Westridge Ct.
Install turn lanes to M&G property (led by property owner)
Improve and update access at Co. Rd. 113
Install southbound left-turn lane at 50th St.
Install northbound left-turn lane on south Co. Rd. 131 access
Update access to Co. Rd. 37
Close access to Davidson Ave. (led by Monticello Township)
Update signal timing at Hwy 26 and Co. Rd. 106/85th St.
Install multi-use trail along Hwy 25 from Co. Rd. 106/85th St. to Kjellberg Ct. in Monticello
Extend the U-turn along Hwy 25, also known as a loon, south of Kjellberg Ct.

Road and access conditions were studied and included traffic counts, traffic forecasts as well as safety concerns within the Hwy 25 study area. Considerations included use of turn lanes, access to/from Hwy 25, sight distances on curves, shoulders, pedestrian crossing and overall safety along the corridor.
