Portions of eastbound I-94, westbound I-394 to close Oct. 9-12

ROSEVILLE, Minn. — Crews will close portions of westbound Interstate 394 and eastbound I-94 in Minneapolis this weekend from 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9 through 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Westbound I-394 between downtown Minneapolis and I-94 will be closed so crews can safely paint several westbound I-394 bridges. This will include closing westbound I-394 entrance ramps from 3rd Avenue, 5th Street, Twins Way and Linden Avenue. Visit the project website to view detours.

Also this weekend, eastbound I-94 between Highway 55 and I-394 will be closed to allow crews to patch, seal and complete other needed bridge deck repairs. Drivers will be detoured to Highway 55, Highway 100 and I-394.

“We are entering the home stretch of this essential project, which includes repairing and restoring 34 bridges and ramps along I-394 and I-94,” said Tim Nelson, Director of Construction, Surveys and Materials at MnDOT Metro District. “Weather permitting, we will only need one final weekend closure of eastbound I-394 after this weekend, as we move toward completing work in November.”

The work associated with these directional, weekend closures requires dry and relatively warm conditions. All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change.

MnDOT urges drivers to always be attentive, drive with caution and slow down in work zones where workers are present.

Eastbound I-394 weekend closure planned for Oct. 16-19

Following this weekend’s closures, MnDOT is planning one final weekend closure as part of this project. Crews will close eastbound I-394 between I-94 and downtown Minneapolis starting at 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16 through 5 a.m., Monday, Oct. 19, weather permitting. This closure is also for bridge painting and requires dry, warmer conditions.
