Eastbound I-394 ramp to eastbound I-94 in Minneapolis to close Sept. 11-14 for bridge repairs
Additional directional I-394 weekend closures are scheduled for the coming weeks
ROSEVILLE, Minn. — Minnesotans should plan ahead for an upcoming weekend closure that will impact traffic from eastbound Interstate 394 to eastbound I-94. Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11 through 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, crews will close the ramp from eastbound I-394 to eastbound I-94 for bridge repairs. Eastbound I-394 will remain open for traffic heading into downtown Minneapolis and the Dunwoody Boulevard exit.
The closure is part of a Minnesota Department of Transportation project that is repairing and restoring more than 30 bridges across I-94 and I-394.
During the closure, traffic will be detoured to Highway 169, I-694 and eastbound I-94 (PNG). Westbound I-394 will remain fully open to traffic, including for people leaving events in downtown Minneapolis.
Drivers are encouraged to check 511 for real-time traffic updates and plan for additional travel time to reach destinations. Motorists can also consider alternative routes — I-35W, Highway 55, Highway 62 and Highway 100 will remain open for traffic during the closure.
For this weekend’s work, MnDOT will repair the ramp’s surface using a special, high-strength and faster-curing surface coating. This material has been used several times for past MnDOT projects over the last 20 years, including for the current work on the I-35E bridge over Shepard Road in St. Paul.
“We understand closing this high-traffic ramp is disruptive, so we are using resources and materials that will accelerate the work and keep traffic moving,” said Tim Nelson, Director of Construction, Surveys and Materials at MnDOT Metro District. “This closure also helps ensure the safety of our crews and allows them to complete needed repairs while keeping this major project on schedule to be completed in November.”
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges drivers to always be attentive, drive with caution and slow down in work zones where workers are present.
