Highway 56 road improvements south of West Concord schedule changed

WEST CONCORD, Minn. – Concrete pavement repairs on Highway 56 between West Concord and Highway 14 have been re-scheduled and are set to occur in two time frames beginning this week and in early July, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Construction crews will be making concrete pavement repairs on Highway 56 from West Concord south to Highway 14 near Dodge Center. Traffic will be detoured during the work this week as well as when work resumes the week of July 7. The road will be reopen once the work is done this week and will be closed to through traffic again the week of July 7 until the work is completed, approximately two weeks, weather permitting.

During the construction work, crews will patch and replace damaged concrete panels or repair or seal joints. The work takes time to remove the concrete, repair and wait for the new concrete to cure or gain strength to hold vehicle traffic. The two-lane highway only has space for the repairs and construction equipment, so no through traffic is allowed. Residents will be able to reach their homes and businesses along the highway.

A map of the detour route is also included on a link at the MnDOT project website.

  • Detour route: If going south, go east on Dodge County Road 24, south on Dodge County Road 7, east on Dodge County Road 20, south on Dodge County Road 7 to Dodge Center and west on Dodge County Road 34 to reach Highway 56
  • If going north, take the above detour route in reverse.

Additional project work
This is part of a series of concrete pavement repairs occurring on state highways in southeast Minnesota from 2025 to 2026. Crews are wrapping up work on Highway 63 south of Spring Valley and also plan work on Highway 14 westbound between Kasson and Dodge Center in 2025. Additional work will be scheduled in 2026 and announced later.

The work on 7 miles of westbound Highway 14 between Kasson and Dodge Center will close one lane of traffic during the repairs and keep one lane open. No work is planned for eastbound Highway 14.
