This webpage is not updated over the weekend/overnight. For up-to-date information on traffic impacts, visit 511mn.org.
All traffic impacts are tentative and weather dependent.
Information about upcoming traffic impacts will be provided as details become available. As crews resurface the road, they will close lanes so please plan for longer travel times. There will not be any detours for these lane closures.
About this project
Safety, maintenance and accessibility improvements are needed on Hwy 5/Minnehaha Ave. and Stillwater Rd. in St. Paul and Maplewood. The project includes repaving, maintenance, sidewalk repairs and accessibility updates for all between N. Mendota St. and Century Ave.
You can learn more about this project by watching this brief presentation.
This construction requires crews to remove 246 boulevard trees. These trees are diseased, in poor health or would be unable to survive construction.
In spring 2023, crews removed 55 trees. In November 2023, crews will remove the remaining 191 trees on Minnehaha Ave. All trees that will be removed have been marked.
Once construction is complete in fall 2024, we will plant 390 new trees. These trees will be better selected for the area and will include native species, salt and drought-tolerant species, and trees that are the right size for boulevards and nearby power poles.
In addition, St. Paul Regional Water Services is currently completing a lead pipe replacement project on Minnehaha Ave. from McKnight Rd. to 7th St. E in anticipation of MnDOT’s upcoming construction.
