Intersection improvements
We've analyzed each intersection along College Drive to make improvements to meet the community's priorities. Based on this review, we are moving forward with the following key intersection improvements.
Hwy 19 & Country Club Drive
The community feedback on this unusual intersection is that it is confusing. We are moving forward with a roundabout at this location. Roundabouts provide enhanced safety and reduce traffic delay. The roundabout will slow down traffic on 4th St., which we heard was a concern from the community. A roundabout addresses the community's priorities of improving safety and making it easier to get across town. A roundabout will accommodate all types of traffic, including large trucks. This roundabout will also improve safety for pedestrians and people who walk and bike.
Hwy 19 & Marvin Schwan Memorial Drive
We are moving forward to change the Marvin Schwan Memorial Drive intersection to a right-in/right-out design. This means traffic would no longer be allowed to cross over or turn left onto College Dr. Making the intersection a right-in/right-out also allows for longer left and right turn lanes at Main St. for traffic which, experiences back-ups through the intersection. This improvement addresses the community's priority of improving safety and making it easier to get from one side of town to the other.
Hwy 19 & Lyon Street
We are moving forward to replace the traffic signal with stops signs on Lyon St. Motorists will still be able to make both left and right turns. Removing the traffic light will improve traffic flow at both the Main St. and Lyon St. intersections. This improvement addresses the community's priority of making it easier to get across town. Bump-outs to shorten the distance pedestrians have to cross the road and a flashing pedestrian beacon are also included in the improvements at Lyon St.
Hwy 19 & Marshall Street
We are moving forward to change Marshall St. to a right-in/right-out design, like the Marvin Schwan intersection. This means traffic would no longer be allowed to cross over or turn left onto College Dr. This improvement addresses the community's input on how difficult it is to see over the bridge railing when making left turns onto College Dr. This improvement also addresses the community's priority of improving safety and making it easier to get across town.
