Concrete Engineering Unit

Goal

To provide engineering and technical expertise to MnDOT, cities, counties, contractors, and consultants for planning, designing, specifying, constructing, and maintaining long-lasting concrete structures and pavements.

Products the unit provides

  • Engineering and technical expertise for the planning, designing, construction, and maintenance of concrete pavements, structural concrete, and miscellaneous concrete applications
  • Material design recommendation review
  • Review and approve concrete mix designs and concrete aggregate sources statewide
  • Review project-specific plans and special provisions for concrete pavement, rehabilitation, and approach panels
  • Technical assistance relating to pavement preservation and preventive maintenance such as scoping and estimating concrete pavement rehabilitation projects
  • Pavement Smoothness Evaluation

What to expect from the unit

  • Prompt response to inquiries and requests for assistance and products
  • Delivery of high-quality products, resources, and training in a timely fashion
  • Project Quality Control/Verification oversight (spreadsheet, audits, etc.)
  • Help and support with issues from design though construction and into maintenance

What you need to provide to the unit

  • Project specifics including SP, location, plans sheets, and special provisions 
  • Pictures and description of construction-related issues
  • Traffic control and maintenance related assistance (if necessary)

What the unit expects from you

  • Contact the unit prior to incorporating nonstandard special provisions into a proposal
