Approved/Qualified Product Lists

This web site is to assist contractors in selecting all products that are required to be pre-approved and for the use by our project personnel verifying the acceptability of products delivered to the project site.

Contractors may be the primary end-result customers for this web site, but it would be without value if manufacturers did not submit their products for inclusion.

Each State approaches their pre-approved products program from different perspectives and with varying processes. Within Minnesota the Approved/Qualified Products Lists (APL/QPL) are managed by several Product Evaluation Coordinators (PEC) within various functional areas of Mn/DOT. Submitted products will be added to the APL/QPL as soon as their evaluation has been completed. The application procedure, forms, specifications, and the approval processes vary between products, so it is important to refer to the documents for the specific product. Products may be removed from the APL/QPL if justifiable concerns arise as to their quality or safety. Questions and/or comments should be directed to the PEC for the particular product category.

The terminology, "Approved Product List" (APL), although sometimes used interchangeably with "Qualified Products List" (QPL), are two different levels of approval. All products must meet standards and specifications to be qualified for use. However, certain products may only be listed as 'qualified' since they still require further sample testing before they are 'approved', and therefore, eligible for use. Products on an Approved Product List meet all standards and specifications without any further sample testing. Also see definitions.
