History and significance

Built in 1958, Bridge 9109 carries U.S. Highway 52 northbound over the Union Pacific Railroad corridor in Dakota County. The bridge is significant as an example of the earliest period of use and evolution for prestressed concrete girders in the state. Prestressed concrete represents a significant advance in construction materials and was first used by the Minnesota Highway Department in 1957.
