Advanced Work Zone Management and Design training

The MnDOT Office of Traffic Engineering, in cooperation with FHWA, is pleased to share the following training opportunity titled Advanced Work Zone Management and Design (PDF). This course will be held December 15-16, 2026 at the MnDOT Shoreview Training Center. This two-day, in- person training is offered at no fee. 12 seats are available for local agency staff on a first-come basis, with one attendee per agency. Should interest exceed available seats, MnDOT will look into hosting a second offering in Spring 2027.
This instructor-led training provides a focused overview of advanced work zone safety and design practices, emphasizing key technical concepts that can be applied across project types. Participants learn how to analyze safety and mobility impacts, develop effective traffic control plans, and apply transportation management strategies that align with agency goals and requirements. The course highlights practical approaches to traffic control design, work zone phasing, and performance monitoring to support safer and more efficient work zone operations.
The target audience includes experienced personnel within State and local transportation agencies, Tribal Governments, contractors, and consultants involved in the planning, design, and management of work zones.
