Fahmid Tousif has accepted an Assistant Traffic Safety Engineer position with MnDOT and began July 29th.

In this position, Fahmid will assist in the administration of the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) and other state and federal funding initiatives focused on improving safety and mobility on Minnesota’s local road system. He will support the development, implementation, and evaluation of transportation safety programs that advance MnDOT’s commitment to safer roadways for all users. Fahmid will be working with Girma Feyissa and the State Aid Programs unit to support these efforts.

Prior to joining MnDOT, Fahmid served as an Engineering Associate III with the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), where he worked as a Traffic and Safety Engineer and contributed to numerous statewide safety and transportation planning initiatives. While completing his Ph.D. in Transportation Safety and Mobility, he worked at the University of Kansas Transportation Center, supporting research and technical assistance projects for clients including the FHWA and KDOT. Fahmid’s professional experience also includes transportation research and engineering roles supporting the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD). Prior to his work in the United States, he worked as a consultant with SMEC, contributing to transportation and infrastructure projects. His background combines experience in transportation safety, traffic operations, planning, research, and infrastructure development across public agencies, academia, and the consulting industry.
