What Managers Need to Know About Work Zone Traffic Control and Safety Need

This webinar will provide managers with information to facilitate informed decision making to provide an effective work zone traffic control and safety program for their agency or company. The training intended for managers at public agencies and private companies whose forces work on or near the streets and highways in Minnesota.

Traffic Control Technicians
- May 13, 2026 – MnDOT St. Cloud Training Center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- May 19, 2026 – MnDOT Shoreview Training Center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This new certification course provides an overview of the Minnesota Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MN MUTCD) standards and guidelines and Minnesota Temporary Traffic Control Field Manual. Topics include selecting appropriate temporary traffic control layouts, work zone speed limits, use of truck mounted attenuators (TMA), drop off standards, and the proper operation of flashing arrow boards and portable changeable message signs (PCMS).
Course is recommended for field workers and field supervisors. Prospective attendees are strongly encouraged to have at least one year of traffic control experience prior to enrollment.

Temporary Traffic Control - Train the Trainer
- May 6, 2026 – MnDOT Duluth District Office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- May 12, 2026 – MnDOT St. Cloud Training Center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- May 20, 2026 – MnDOT Shoreview Training Center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This is a certification course for individuals who will be teaching the fundamentals of temporary traffic control to others within their agency, or other agencies.
The course will cover the core requirements for setting up and implementing temporary traffic control. Topics include: MN MUTCD standards and guidelines, including the Field Manual, safe practices, worker and flagger attire and responsibilities, work zone speed limits, temporary work zone signing, barricades, channelizers, and pedestrian and bike considerations in work zones.
This course is recommended for state, county, city, and private sector professionals who are responsible for the implementation of traffic control, including supervisors, lead workers, or any individual responsible for training others in temporary traffic control. Prospective attendees are strongly encouraged to have at least two years of traffic control experience or to be a certified Traffic Control Supervisor through MnDOT or ATSSA prior to enrollment.
