New process for Standard Plan Sheets

By: Rollin Larson, State Aid Construction Specialist (Districts 6-8)

State Aid has updated guidance on how to incorporate Standard Plan Sheets into plan sets. This new State Aid guidance went into effect on June 1, 2025, and was developed in response to MnDOT changing their process.

MnDOT is changing to a process where most Roadway Standard Plan sheets are no longer incorporated as plan sheets into a plan, but are referenced, similar to how Standard Plates are done.

For State Aid plans with work on a Trunk Highway, you will be expected to follow the MnDOT process.
For projects without work on Trunk Highways, cities and counties may use the MnDOT process, or continue to include Standard Plan sheets in their plan, whichever method the design engineer deems appropriate.

Please see the complete State Aid Standard Plan Guidance webpage for your plans moving forward. The webpage can also be accessed from the State Aid Project Delivery webpage, under the plans, design, and preparation section.
