New temporary traffic control trainer certification course

MnDOT is excited to introduce a brand-new Temporary Traffic Control - Train the Trainer certification course. This new course is designed to certify trainers, making this critical training more accessible to transportation workers across Minnesota.

This one-day, in-person course is designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to train others within your agency, or other agencies on the fundamentals of temporary traffic control.

The course will cover the core requirements for setting up and implementing temporary traffic control. Topics include: MN MUTCD standards and guidelines, including the Field Manual, safe practices, worker and flagger attire and responsibilities, work zone speed limits, temporary work zone signing, barricades, channelizers, and pedestrian and bike considerations in work zones.

This course is recommended for state, county, city, and private sector professionals who are responsible for the implementation of traffic control, including supervisors, lead workers, or any individual responsible for training others in temporary traffic control. Prospective attendees are strongly encouraged to have at least two years of traffic control experience or to be a certified Traffic Control Supervisor through MnDOT or ATSSA prior to enrollment.

  • May 29, 2025 – Mankato
  • June 11, 2025 – St. Cloud
  • July 9, 2025 – Arden Hills
  • August 2025 - Arden Hills (date soon to be finalized)
