MnDOT and WisDOT to host a public meeting Sept. 21 for the Highway 243 Osceola Bridge construction project
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – The Minnesota and Wisconsin departments of transportation will host a public meeting from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 21 at Osceola High School, 111 Oak Ridge Drive in Osceola, to provide updates on the Highway 243 Osceola Bridge project, upcoming traffic impacts, the construction schedule, and when the bridge will close to traffic.
There will be no formal presentation, and people are invited to stop by at their convenience at any time during the meeting. The project team will be available to go over construction plans, review project layouts, and answer questions.
Specialized dive teams began preliminary work in August relocating several native freshwater mussel species from the construction area. Additional preparations for bridge construction are also underway. Crews will close the bridge to traffic later this fall to remove the existing structure and build a new one in the same location.

Osceola Landing north boat launch closure begins Sept. 14
Starting at 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, crews will close the north boat launch and parking lot at the Osceola Landing until late summer 2028 for bridge construction and facility improvements. The parking lot and boat ramps will be used as a staging area and river access for construction crews and equipment. The south boat launch and parking lot will remain accessible during construction.
MnDOT and WisDOT are partnering to replace the Highway 243 Osceola Bridge over the St. Croix River to maintain a reliable connection between Washington and Chisago counties in Minnesota and the village of Osceola in Polk County, Wisconsin. The current bridge, built in 1953, will be replaced with a new bridge in the same location. The project will also include a new pedestrian and bicycle path linking Osceola Landing to the village of Osceola. Construction is anticipated to be completed in fall 2028.
