Lane closures on I-35 near Owatonna begin Aug. 24 for resurfacing; expect traffic delays

OWATONNA, Minn. – Motorists traveling on Interstate 35 south of Owatonna should be alert for lane closures in each direction and possible traffic delays beginning Aug. 24 as crews resurface the road, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

I-35 northbound and southbound lanes will be resurfaced from Highway 14 to the Straight River Rest Area. A single lane closure in each direction will be in place during the work. During times of heavy traffic such as the morning and evening commutes and weekends (Friday through Sunday), traffic is likely to back up. Motorists can adjust their departure times, expect longer travel time or choose alternate routes in anticipation of slower-moving traffic through the work zone. I-35 resurfacing is expected to be completed early October.

Resurfacing Highway 14 eastbound and westbound lanes from I-35 to Highway 218 on the south side of Owatonna is tentatively scheduled to begin towards the end of September. A lane closure in each direction and short-term ramp closures will occur. It is anticipated that ramp closures will last several hours to a few days. Closures will be shown on 511mn.org. It is anticipated that work will be completed by late October.
