Crews begin work on Highway 212 J-turn at Highway 5/25/County Road 131 intersection on Aug. 12

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Crews begin work on the Highway 212 J-turn at Highway 5/25/County Road 131 in Young America Township at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Highway 212 access to and from Highway 5/25/County Road 131 will be limited through early October.

From Aug. 12 to mid-September, crews will work on the south side of the intersection, resulting in these traffic impacts:

  • Westbound and eastbound Highway 212 to southbound Highway 5/25 detour: Highway 212 to southbound County Road 1 to eastbound County Road 10/50 to Highway 5/25
  • Northbound Highway 5/25 to westbound Highway 212 detour: Northbound Highway 5/25 to eastbound Highway 212 to Wells Avenue J-turn to westbound Highway 212
  • Northbound Highway 5/25 (across Highway 212) to County Road 131 detour: Eastbound Highway 212 to Wells Avenue J-turn to westbound Highway 212 to County Road 131
  • Southbound County Road 131 (across Highway 212) to Highway 5/25 detour: Westbound Highway 212 to southbound County Road 1 to eastbound County Road 10/50 to Highway 5/25

From mid-September through early October, crews will begin work on the Highway 212 median at the intersection, which will also result in traffic impacts and detours.

Crews will complete J-turns at the Wells Avenue and Railroad Street intersections by 7 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12. Crews continue work at the County Road 31 J-turn through mid-September.

Traffic will remain one lane in each direction throughout the project area, between Highway 5/Highway 25/County Road 131 in Young America Township and Highway 5/Highway 25/Reform Street in Norwood Young America.

All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution and slow down in work zones where workers are present.

Crews are improving about 2.5 miles of Highway 212 by building J-turns at Highway 5/Highway 25/County Road 131, Wells Avenue, County Road 31 and West Railroad Street. Workers will also install cable median barriers.

The project began in May and is scheduled for completion in fall 2026.

The J-turns will help reduce “T-bone” crashes and the cable median barriers will help reduce cross-median crashes.
