Highway 14 and I-35 resurfacing near Owatonna begins Aug. 24

OWATONNA, Minn. – Motorists on Highway 14 and Interstate 35 motorists near Owatonna will experience lane and ramp closures beginning Aug. 24 as crews resurface the roads, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Highway 14 eastbound and westbound lanes will be resurfaced from I-35 to Highway 218. I-35 northbound and southbound lanes will be resurfaced from Highway 14 to the Straight River Rest Area. Lane closures will be in place during the work, which begins after the Steele County Fair has closed.

Short-term ramp closures will occur and motorists will be detoured. It is anticipated that ramp closures will last several hours to a few days. Closures will be shown on 511mn.org.

  • Highway 14 eastbound off-ramp closure to Highway 218
    Detour: From Highway 14 eastbound, take Steele County Road 45 exit and go south. Go east on Steele County Road 60, which intersects with Highway 218.
  • Highway 14 eastbound on-ramp closure from County Road 45
    Detour: Continue north on County Road 45 and take exit to Highway 14 westbound. Take exit at I-35 and then take exit to Highway 14 eastbound.
  • Highway 14 westbound off-ramp closure to County Road 45
    Detour: Continue west on Highway 14.  Take exit at I-35 and then take exit to Highway 14 eastbound. Take County Road 45 exit.
  • Highway 14 eastbound off-ramp closure to County Road 45
    Detour: Continue east on Highway 14. Take exit to Highway 218, go north and take exit to Highway 14 westbound. Take exit to County Road 45.
  • Highway 14 westbound on-ramp closure from County Road 45
    Detour: Go south on County Road 45 and take the eastbound exit to Highway 14. Take exit to Highway 218, go north and take exit to Highway 14 westbound.
  • Highway 14 eastbound on-ramp closure from Highway 218
    Detour: Go north on Highway 218 and take the westbound exit to Highway 14. Take the County Road 45 exit and then exit to Highway 14 eastbound.

Resurfacing helps extend the life of the road and create a smoother ride. The resurfacing is expected to be completed by the end of October.
