MnDOT to host public meetings and seek input for Hwy 51/Snelling Ave. and Montreal Ave. study in St. Paul

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation invites the community to participate in several engagement opportunities this summer as part of the Highway 51/Snelling Avenue and Montreal Avenue study in St. Paul.

Community members can attend a public meeting, a pop-up event or provide feedback online to help shape future improvements along the study area.

An in-person public meeting will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 22 at the Macalester College Leonard Center Athletic and Wellness Complex, Hall of Fame room and a presentation will begin at 5:15 p.m.

A virtual public meeting will also be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 29. Registration details are available on the study webpage.

At these meetings, participants can learn about existing conditions, explore key issues and opportunities, share their experiences traveling along Snelling and Montreal avenues and provide input to help guide future improvements.

MnDOT will also attend a pop-up event at the Highland Tower Open House hosted by the city of St. Paul from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 18, at 782 Snelling Ave. S. Study staff will be available to answer questions and share information about the study.

Members of the public are also encouraged to submit feedback through an online survey and interactive comment map through Wednesday, Aug. 5. Input is being gathered at locations where crossing, walking, biking, or accessing transit feels challenging. This feedback will help identify areas of concern, better understand how the study area is used today and shape a shared vision for future improvements.

MnDOT is studying Snelling Avenue and Montreal Avenue from Dayton Avenue to Hwy 5/West Seventh Street in St. Paul to identify current needs and opportunities ahead of a planned resurfacing project scheduled for construction between 2030 and 2031. The study focuses on improving safety and accessibility for all users, including people walking, biking, taking transit and driving.

For more information about this study, or to sign up for email updates, visit the Snelling–Montreal study webpage.
