Preliminary work begins Monday, June 15 for on Highway 65 in Blaine
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – If you live or work near, or commute on Hwy 65 between 121st Ave./Paul Pkwy. and 97th Ave. in Blaine, you’ll be witness to the start of construction next week on the highway, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Crews will mobilize equipment and begin construction to transform the highway into a freeway through the city.
This year’s work includes continuing utility relocation throughout the area (which began last year), widening the highway to carry traffic during the following years’ construction work and building crossovers to switch traffic and keep motorists moving during work at the intersections. Additionally, construction crews will work on frontage and backage roads on each side of Highway 65 and install storm sewer pipes to handle drainage along the highway. There will be some lane closures on Highway 65 and side streets will be closed and detoured while pipes are jacked beneath the road.
The project will convert the existing at-grade intersections at 99th Ave., 105th Ave., 109th Ave. and 117th Ave./Cloud Dr. into interchanges, with Hwy 65 traveling above. Work also includes a pedestrian bridge across the new freeway between 113th and 114th Avenues, rerouting existing local street/driveway connections using frontage/backage roads between 97th Ave. and 125th Ave. along with reconstructing existing sidewalk along the road to meet Americans with Disability Act (ADA) standards.
Anoka County also has highway construction on 109th Avenue NE at Tournament Players Parkway and at Radisson Road (County Road 52) and there is construction along 105th Ave. between Radisson Road and Highway 65.
