Long-term ramp closures start June 10 on Hwy 12, I-394 and I-494 in Minnetonka and Wayzata

ROSEVILLE, Minn. —Motorists traveling in Minnetonka and Wayzata will encounter long-term ramp closures starting June 10 that will impact access for Hwy12, Interstate 394 and I- 494, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The closures will allow crews to make pavement repairs for the Hwy 12 construction project in Wayzata and Minnetonka.

MnDOT encourages motorists to plan ahead for these ramp closures:

June 10-14 ramp closure
Starting Wednesday, June 10 to Sunday, June 14, the westbound I-394 entrance to northbound I-494 will be closed. The detour for this closure is to “run the loops” — exit for the southbound I-494 loop, then to the eastbound I-394 loop, and then onto the northbound I-494 loop.

June 15 through early July ramp closure
From Monday, June 15 through early July, the ramp from westbound Hwy 12 to southbound I-494 is closed. The detour is northbound I-494 to Highway 55 to southbound I-494.

June 15 through late July ramp closures
Also starting June 15 and continuing through late July, the ramp from northbound I-494 to westbound Hwy12 is closed. The detour is eastbound I-394 to northbound Hwy 169 to westbound I-394

During this same period, the ramp from westbound Hwy 12 to Carlson Parkway is closed. The detour is northbound I-494 to Carlson Parkway.

Additional ramp closures will continue across the Hwy 12 construction area through November.

All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution and slow down in work zones where workers are present.

About the Highway 12 project
Crews will rebuild, repair and resurface Hwy 12 between Shoreline Drive (County Road 15) in Wayzata and I-494 in Minnetonka. The project will result in lane reductions and several ramp closures. Construction is scheduled to be completed in November.

Portions of Highway 12 were built in the 1970s and the last significant pavement improvements were made in 2008. This project will give Highway 12 another 20-plus years of life and will ultimately benefit motorists, businesses and residents.

I-394 between Hwy 100 and downtown Minneapolis — through November

  • Through mid-summer, the main westbound I-394 lanes are closed, with westbound traffic using the E-ZPass lanes. From mid-summer through November, the eastbound I-394 lanes will be closed, with eastbound traffic using the E-ZPass lanes. Crews are repairing and restoring more than 30 bridges across I-94 and I-394. mndot.gov/metro/projects/i94-i394minneapolis/

I-394 at Hopkins Crossroads —through early July

I-394 in St. Louis Park — through September

  • This project will add auxiliary lanes on I-394 — this type of lane gives motorists additional space and time to safely accelerate/decelerate to enter and exit I-394. As a result of this work, these closures will occur through September: the ramp from Louisiana Avenue to eastbound I-394; the ramp from eastbound I-394 to Xenia Avenue/Park Place; and westbound Wayzata Boulevard between Louisiana Avenue and Zarthan Avenue. mndot.gov/metro/projects/i394stlouispark/index.html
