I-90 resurfacing and bridge replacement begins May 4 between Dakota, Nodine

ROCHESTER, Minn. –Interstate 90 resurfacing between Dakota and Nodine in Winona County begins May 4 and motorists will experience lane closures through the fall, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

I-90 will be resurfaced in both directions. Lane closures have been in place since March 30 for construction preparation including ditch cleaning and tree removal. The lane closures will continue for the resurfacing work and will remain in place through late fall. Eastbound lanes are anticipated to reopen before westbound as work progresses.
The westbound bridge over Winona County Road 101 will be replaced. Winona County Road 101 will be closed and detoured during the work, which begins mid-May. The county road detour is expected to be several months at a time as crews replace the bridge half at a time, while keeping one I-90 lane open. The County Road 101 detour route is: Winona County Road 12 west at Dakota to Dakota Valley Drive east.
The following is the planned work on I-90 from Nodine to Dakota.

Repave 5 miles of westbound and 4.7 miles of eastbound I-90.
Replace the westbound I-90 bridge over Winona County Road 101.
Replace approach panels and bridge barrier guardrail connections on the westbound I-90 bridge over southbound Highway 61.
Improve safety by providing a slight banking of the right lane of northbound I-90 approaching the bridge over southbound Highway 61.
Install new guardrail on the eastbound and westbound lanes and improve drainage.
Install a reinforcement and a synthetic liner to reduce sinkhole risks associated with Karst geology.
Clean and reestablish rock catchment areas.
