Highway 55 through traffic: detour remains in effect for Annandale
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation urges drivers passing through Annandale on Highway 55 to use the signed detour route.
The through traffic detour is already in progress. MnDOT has seen an increase in through traffic within the Highway 55 work zone, which makes local trips and contractor work progress difficult. A second crew began reconstruction on the west end at Brown Avenue on June 23, making the through-traffic detour necessary.
Here’s what to expect on this project through mid-October:
- Through traffic: Highway 55 is closed between Brown Avenue and Annandale Boulevard in Annandale. The detour uses Wright County Road 3, County Road 39, Highway 24 and County Road 6.
- Local traffic: Highway 55 remains open for those who live, visit or work in Annandale. However, expect changes like gravel surfaces, narrow lanes, reduced speeds, flaggers controlling traffic and heavy equipment. Pedestrian sidewalks may also be closed; follow signed detours. Always obey signs for hard closures or changes to access.
This $11.5 million project will resurface, reconstruct and widen shoulders on segments of Highway 55. It also includes underground city utilities, sidewalks and adjacent roads/entrances.
MnDOT thanks the traveling public for their patience while using the through traffic detour. This helps ensure local access for the community and promotes smoother travel within the work zone.
When completed in mid-October, travelers will benefit from a smoother ride, improved motorist and pedestrian access and safety, and updated drainage and city utilities.
