Public invited May 22 to learn about Hwy 218 resurfacing project north of Austin

LANSING, Minn. – The public is invited to attend a public information meeting on May 22 in Lansing Township north of Austin to learn about and provide comments on the Highway 218 resurfacing project planned for 2027 or 2028 between Austin and Blooming Prairie, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

People can drop by from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 22 at the Lansing Township Hall, 26938 539th Avenue, Lansing, MN. No formal presentation is planned. People can come and go on their schedule. If you attend the meeting, you can talk with project managers, ask questions and receive information about the project. The project website will be updated with information from the meeting.

Work is planned on Highway 218 in 2027 or 2028 depending on funding, but the work will be after the I-90 Austin bridges project is completed. The work will:

  • Resurface Highway 218 north of Austin from I-90 to Mower County Road 36 south of Blooming Prairie.
  • Replace two bridges (this work may be part of another project. MnDOT will announce in future)
  • Install new lighting at Mower County Roads 1 and 2
  • Build a left turn lane at Mower County Road 2
  • Replace traffic signals at Mower County Road 27 in Austin
  • Improve sidewalk and accessibility
