MnDOT, in partnership with the City of Hastings, conducted a study on Hwy 61 between 4th St. and 36th St. in Hastings from spring 2022 through June 2024. The goal of the study was to evaluate Hwy 61 in Hastings for all modes of transportation and all users, including safety, operations, and stakeholder needs. The issues and concerns heard in the process were turned into potential alternatives and evaluated. The results of the evaluation led to a recommended new vision for Hwy 61 in Hastings.

The vision for Hwy 61 in Hastings builds on previous studies in the area by MnDOT and the City of Hastings, including:
