Traffic Forecasting

This unit is responsible for producing, reviewing, and the approval of all MnDOT’s 20 and 35 year traffic forecasts which include average annual daily traffic (AADT), heavy commercial annual average daily traffic (HCAADT) and equivalent single axle loads (ESALS). Design hour volumes, directional distributions and 20 year projections of AADT and HCAADT are produced annually for the Federal Highway Administration’s Highway Performance Monitoring System. The Traffic forecasting Unit tracks, reports and utilizes county socioeconomic data when forecasting traffic. The Traffic Forecasting Unit provides leadership, methods, training, technical assistance and quality assurance for District personnel in designing special traffic studies and in the creation of standardized reports.
