Technical Certification Program

You must have a Tech ID to register. Lake Superior College won't process registrations without a Tech ID and payment.

Class registration and billing

Lake Superior College (LSC) handles all TCP class registrations and billing. The LSC staff and registration system processes requests in the order they are received. Classes fill quickly, so you should register as soon as possible.

Registration process

  1. For new users: If you plan to pay with a purchase order from your organization and have not done so before, contact Suzanne Johnsrud for approval in advance; when paying with a purchase order, you will need to upload a file in PDF format.
  2. Go to the Lake Superior College Registration site and click on Register Now at the bottom right side of the page.
  3. Click on the My Account button (far right side).
    • New Users:
      • If this is your first time registering through Lake Superior College (LSC), set up your LSC registration account by carefully following the directions on the screen.
      • If you are doing registration for others, create a “Organization Account.”
  4. For every person you will be registering, create and update their Participant profile.
    • Every Participant must have a Tech ID.
    • Every Participant must have their own unique, current, and valid email address.
    • Confirm that all information for each Participant is current, including address, email, and phone.
  5. Go to the Continuing Education tab, select Lake Superior College, and then MnDOT Technical Certification.
  6. Select a class and add participants.
    • Find the class you would like to register people for, click the box in the Select column, and click Add to Cart.
    • On the next screen, update the quantity to the numbers of participants being registered and Update Cart.
    • Select the participant(s) and click Update Cart.
    • Repeat as needed for other classes.
  7. Click Check Out to complete the registration(s), following the directions on the screen.
    • When paying with a purchase order you must upload a file in PDF format.
  8. Make sure each participant you registered receives all class information.
    • They must have personal, unique, valid, and current email address in the system to receive their information directly.
    • Check: Did they receive the registration confirmation email?
    • Check: Did they receive the class reminder email, sent two weeks before class?
    • Check: Do they know they are responsible to bring the required course materials to class?
  9. If there are any changes to participants’ profiles or registrations, log into your Lake Superior College account and make edits there. See cancellations and changes section below for current policies and procedures.

  1. Go to the Lake Superior College Registration site and click on Register Now at the bottom right side of the page.
  2. Click on the My Account button (far right side).

    • If you have registered for courses in the past, log into your account and check that your place of work, address, email, and phone on your account or all current and update as needed.
  3. Go to the Continuing Education tab, select Lake Superior College, and then MnDOT Technical Certification.
  4. Select a class and select the participant (you), then Update Cart.
    • If you are registering for more than one class, go Back to Catalog and repeat
  5. Click Check Out to complete your registration and make payment, following the directions on the screen.
  6. Look for the registration confirmation email and then, two weeks before class, for the class reminder email for important information.
  7. If you need to make any changes to your registration or your profile, log into your Lake Superior College account. See the cancellations and changes section below for current policies and procedures.

  1. Get supervisor approval for any class(es) you are to take this season.
  2. Work with your district’s training representative who will complete your registration for you.
  3. Look first for the registration confirmation email and then, two weeks before class, for the class reminder email for important information.

Logistics, credits, and special needs

Class times

Class days are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., unless noted 

Class locations

You will receive information about the class location in the registration email after you register and the confirmation email sent two weeks before the class.  See all class locations.

Lodging and meals

You or your employer are responsible for your own meals and lodging.  The MnDOT training facilities have vending machines with some food and beverage options.

LSC course credit for the class

At the end of your class, you will be emailed a college credit request form. In order to receive free college credit, you must attend the class, pass the exam, fill out the form in its entirety, and email it to Iris Hiemenz.

Learning differences and accommodations

If you have a disability or learning issue, either permanent or temporary, which might affect your ability to perform in a class, the online exam, or the performance exam, contact Suzanne Johnsrud to discuss possible accommodations.

Cancellations and changes

If you need to cancel - and it is more than a week before the class

Go into your Lake Superior College registration account to make changes and cancellations.  If you cancel at least seven calendar days prior to the class, you will receive a refund.

If your company wants to send a replacement for you

If you will not be attending the class, your company may may opt to send replacement for you,  but only if the change is recorded in the registration system. Email Iris Hiemenz to report the change. Please include the course name, class number, and both students’ names (the current student registered and new student taking their place).

If you need to cancel - and it is less than a week before the class

If  is  within seven days of the class start date, you cannot make changes in the LSC registration system and no refund will be given. Please contact Iris Hiemenz so they can notify the instructor of your absence. 

If you miss class

You will not receive credit for the class or get access to the exam. You must re-register and pay another class fee.

If there is a weather advisory

Classes will not be cancelled due to possible bad weather. If you feel driving conditions are too dangerous for you to attend, please contact Suzanne Johnsrud the morning of the scheduled class. You may be moved into another class section, if one is available, or will be issued a refund. Additional classes will not be opened to accommodate those that choose not to attend due to weather.
