Signing Plan
Purpose
Traffic signs are devices that regulate the flow of traffic, warn users of upcoming changes or hazards, and guide users and keep them safe. A signing plan lays out the best way to arrange these signs.
When to use this subject
Use this guidance on most construction projects. Typically the signs are impacted by a change in geometrics or the sign bases are impacted with a change in grading.

How this subject fits into the overall project development process
Scoping should always include a discussion with the District Signing Unit. All freeway and complex intersections require signing to be considered in the layout development and may require a signing layout along with a geometric layout. Borings are required for all overhead sign structure footings as well as needing current clearance height of the structure over the roadway. When the signing plan is complete, include it in the main construction plan for project turn in. Prepare the signing plan during final design. When it is complete, include it in the main construction plan for project turn in.
