Goal

To create and support software applications to increase efficiency and accuracy in the daily tasks of MnDOT surveying personnel.

Products the unit provides

  • 60+ applications both internal and public to automate land surveying related tasks, including database interactions, file manipulations, coordinate geometry calculations, reporting, and others
  • 55+ MicroStation macros used by the Photogrammetric and Platting Units in assembling CAD drawings
  • Coding and support for new and existing applications throughout MnDOT surveying offices

What to expect from the unit

  • New software application for the surveying field to increase accuracy and efficiency thereby saving time and money
  • Support for existing applications
  • Rewriting or modifying existing applications as needed so they continue to function with new versions of third-party software

What you need to provide to the unit

  • Detailed information in writing regarding the location and format of the source data to be accessed by a new application
  • Detailed information as to the objective of the submitted request
  • Detailed information about the expected outcome and its format, be it a report, an Excel file, or changes in the Geodetic database

What the unit expects from you

  • Clarification of the initial work request as needed while the project is in progress
  • Feedback from the testing of the new or modified software
  • Sharing the capabilities of the new software with other MnDOT surveying personnel
