Site Development Unit
Goal
The goal of the Site Development Unit (SDU) is to provide planning, programming and design services in the following areas:
- Safety Rest Areas and Waysides
- Historic Roadside Properties
- State Entry Monuments
- Park and Ride facilities
- Department Building sites
Products the unit provides
The SDU provides the following products for MnDOT safety rest areas, historic roadside properties and state entry monuments:
- Site plans from concept through to construction bid documents
- Partnership agreements
- Special project implementation
- Early Notification Memos
- Environmental Documents including Programmatic and Non-Programmatic Categorical Exclusions (CATEXs)
- Customer feedback reports
- Communications documents and displays
- Interpretive displays
- Research documents
- Policy documents
What to expect from the unit
The SDU provides the following services for MnDOT safety rest areas, historic roadside properties and state entry monuments:
- Investment planning and programming
- Operations and maintenance guidance
- Compliance analysis with applicable federal and state laws and regulations
- Facility and special project partnership development
- Project management for design and construction
- Early Notification Memo preparation and distribution
- Early Notification Memo responses for facilities impacted by other MnDOT projects
- Environmental Documents preparation
- Design services
- Construction administration
- Responses to customer and other stakeholders
- Market research
- Technical research
- Policy implementation
- Advocacy
In addition, the SDU provides professional landscape architectural services including:
- Project management for non-corridor related architectural and site projects
- Layout, site, grading and planting plan and specification development for department facilities
- Visual Impact Assessments for non-corridor related architectural and site projects
