Function

The EPA exists to protect the environment and human health. The agency develops, implements, and enforces environmental regulations.  The EPA ensures that Americans have clean air, land, and water; efforts to reduce environmental risks are based on the best scientific information; federal environmental laws are administered and enforced fairly and effectively; environmental stewardship is integral to US policies; all parts of society have access to accurate information sufficient to effectively participate in managing human health and environmental risks; contaminated lands and toxic sites are cleaned up; and chemicals in the marketplace are reviewed the safety.
