Traffic impact: Hwy 55 from Barrett to Hoffman CLOSED
Highway 55 is CLOSED between Barrett and Hoffman through the winter. The road is impassable just east of Barrett at the Pomme de Terre River. Follow the detour route on Highways 59 and 27.
Local traffic: if your destination is located east of the river on Highway 55, you must use an alternate route—you cannot get through from the Barrett side. If a snow event occurs, MnDOT operators will plow up to the last residence on the closed portion of Highway 55.
In August 2019, the Minnesota Department of Transportation began a resurfacing and construction project on Hwy 55 from Barrett to the Grant/Douglas County line. Although the rest of the project was completed in late October 2019, the bridge replacement portion of the project experienced delays due to de-watering issues.
In November 2019, MnDOT made the decision to suspend the Highway 55 bridge replacement work at the Pomme de Terre River until spring 2020. MnDOT will re-evaluate the plan at the Pomme de Terre River and re-bid the culvert work in 2020. As soon as the weather allows, the work will resume in the spring.
Work completed in 2019

- ADA improvements along one city block in Barrett
