Materials & Road Research

 Location: 1400 Gervais Ave., Maplewood, MN 55109

Duration: Summer Only

 Description: This position will be assisting various technicians with sample preparation and testing. The student is   responsible for sample preparation & marking, assisting with test, logging data into the computer for test samples and cleaning and maintenance.

Description: This position exists to assist in the Program Delivery: North Area Management that oversees Anoka and Ramsey Counties. Projects involved are scoping, budgeting, managing, and engagement. MnDOT is involved with corridors over their lifecycle and studies projects from 10+ years in advance of construction to the development phase. We work closely with MnDOT leadership, MnDOT functional areas, City and County Engineers & Planner, as well as the public. The position will assist North Area staff when working with city, county, and consulting engineers. Investigate and reply to inquires from the public, outside agencies, and other functional groups within the department. Provide administrative support to the North Area Staff by working with other MnDOT functional groups to obtain necessary and value-added information. Support project manager, area staff, or functional staff key contacts with projects/studies that are initiated by MnDOT or local stakeholders.

Description: This position exists to update the Transportation Asset Management System (TAMS) sign panel library to 2k font. The student will add 2k font sign designs to the TAMS panel library, track the additions by series in the Standard Signs and Marking Manual, and attend staff meetings as needed and other duties as assigned.

Duration: Up to 1 year

Description: This position will work to collect asset inventory within MnDOT right-of-way in accordance with the Olmstead Act using an application on a work provided iPhone or iPad. They will Collect data on sidewalks, pedestrian ramps, crosswalks, driveways, push button stations, and multi-use trails. In addition, they will assist inspectors on DBE/small business program with construction compliance by verifying ramps and cross slopes meet and all work is compliant to ADA standard specifications. The position will also be involved with putting together project plans and special provisions for submitting to contractors for bidding purposes.

Description: The Metro West Area is responsible for the management of the MnDOT program in Hennepin County. The West Area staff spend much of their time helping to manage projects, relationships with partners, and answering questions from the public. This position will help the West Area by providing support to our daily tasks. Area management involves the convergence of engineering, coordination, relationships, and communications. The student will assist the West Area staff by helping to prepare draft documents and assist in the gathering of information. In addition, the student will be involved in meetings, the alternative analysis process, outreach process, scoping process, and coordination will give them significant exposure to many different facets of work at MnDOT.

Bridge Office

Location: 3485 Hadley Avenue North, Oakdale, MN 55128

Description: This position exists to provide office support and technical support to the Bridge Office. Under general supervision, perform duties including, but not limited to scanning engineering documents and placing into EDIGS, general office support, data entry, receptionist duties, etc.
